The USC women's tennis team has added another star to its powerful lineup for the 2013-14 season to come with the addition of Brynn Boren to the Trojan roster. A California native, Boren will join the Women of Troy as a senior next season, having transferred from Tennessee, where she shined as an All-SEC honoree and was most recently named an ITA All-American.

 

"Brynn Boren gives us immediate leadership and tremendous experience at the hightest level," USC head coach Richard Gallien said of Boren, who finished this past season ranked No. 26 in the nation in singles and No. 5 in doubles. "Brynn has been a consistent performer in singles and doubles. We are thrilled to welcome her to our team."

 

Boren grew up in Laguna Niguel, Calif., and graduated from Laurel Springs High School in 2009. She won the 2007 CIF doubles title and won two team CIF titles during her prep career. From there, Boren signed on at Tennessee, earning SEC All-Freshman and All-SEC Second Team honors in her first season. She'd go on to earn 2012 First Team All-SEC honors and be named the 2012 ITA Ohio Valley Region Player to Watch. In her junior season, Boren and teammate Kata Szekely earned ITA All-American honors as the No. 4 seed in the 2013 NCAA Doubles Championships. There, Boren would wind up squaring off against her teammates-to-be, USC's top-seeded Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria, in the semifinals. 

 

In all, Boren brings in a career singles record of 74-41 and a career doubles record of 89-26, having earned another set of All-SEC First Team honors and reigning as the 2012 ITA Ohio Valley Region Doubles champion during her junior campaign. Ranked as high as No. 18 in the nation in singles and No. 2 in doubles while at Tennessee, Boren brings high-caliber tennis skill to the Women of Troy for her senior season of competition in 2013-14.

 

"We feel like the luckiest team in the country to have Brynn join our program," USC associate head coach West Nott said. "Her results speak for themselves having been one of the best singles and doubles players in the NCAA over the past couple years. She has many of the intangibles you are looking for in a player -- from her competitiveness to her smile to her work ethic -- so we are excited to get rolling with her and wish we were playing a match tomorrow against the Pac-12.  We have a great group of parents at USC who cheer us on and we are fortunate to add another set of great parents in Jean and Barry."
