BOISE, Idaho - Boise State’s men’s tennis head coach Greg Patton announced today the addition of two new recruits Danny Moyer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Kyle Butters (Wanganui, New Zealand) for the 2014-15 season. Moyer joined the team this week for the fall semester of classes, while Butters will arrive in January for the spring team dual season, both will be true freshman for the Broncos.

“I am just excited to have these two quality young men join our program and they are both going to be such assets for this team,” said Patton. “Danny (Moyer) is from the heartland of American tennis and Kyle is one of the best young talents out of New Zealand winning several national junior titles. They are both going to be big for our future success.”

Moyer started school at Boise State on Monday and will compete for the Broncos this fall. The freshman comes from Hackett Catholic Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich., where he was a four-time first-team all-state and all-conference honoree. The Boise State freshman was ranked 20th in the junior rankings for the USTA’s Great Lakes Region and sixth among his class in the state of Michigan. On the national stage Moyer has been ranked among the USTA top 200 juniors and he has an rpi ranking in the top 200.

“Danny comes from the mecca of American tennis in Kalamazoo where they hold the national junior championships on a regular basis,” said Patton. “He has grown up in that competitive environment and knows what it is like to compete at the highest levels. Danny is a great kid all around athletically and personally who will bring alot to our program.”

Kyle Butters will arrive at Boise State in January in time for the start of the 2015 team dual season. Butters is from Wanganui, New Zealand, where he has been a standout among the junior ranks winning national championships in singles and doubles for every age group (U12, U14, U16 and U18). He recently won the national U18 singles and doubles titles and is ranked No. 1 in juniors for all age groups in the country. Butters has also won three International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament singles titles and reach six finals in doubles. He is a three-time New Zealand Maori Tournament champion and a two-year member of the Junior Davis Cup team.

“We were in a hotly contested recruiting battle to land such a quality international recruit like Kyle,” commented Patton. “We are thrilled  to have a top international player like Kyle join the “tennis brotherhood” at Boise State. He will continue the heritage of top Kiwi players who have made a powerful impact and contribution to our program over the years following in the foot steps of Lee Gallway, Anthony Adams and James Meredith.”
