After Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from Wimbledon, the organizers at London’s famous SW19 Grand Slam event carefully placed Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on opposite sides of the draw to open up the potential of a dream final between the two giants of the men’s game. However, will the final eventually play out between the two men?

The online bookies certainly seem to think so, with the odds for a Djokovic – Federer final being where the smart betting money seems to be headed. As all tennis bettors will already be aware, Novak Djokovic will be starting as outright favorite to win the Men’s Singles Wimbledon title, with the great Roger Federer the second favorite on the betting line. For those interested, you can place a wager on either man to win the title on well-known online betting sites like bet365, 10bet and 888sport another great choice is FansBet for the fact that they are offering great promotions and bonuses for tennis bettors. or you can take the betting plunge on both men reaching the 2021 Wimbledon Men’s final to provide Wimbledon’s traditionally nostalgic fans with a unique piece of finals history.

Let’s take a moment and consider the two great players and if they can meet in a much-anticipated final match-up.

The case for Novak Djokovic to make the Wimbledon Final
Following the Serb’s astonishing come-from-behind win in the French Open final over the young Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (more than decade less in age), Novak Djokovic has set himself up for a shot at this year’s Wimbledon title. Not only would a Wimbledon win provide the third leg in a calendar year Grand Slam (a feat last performed in the Open era by Aussie great Rod Laver way back in 1969), a successful 2021 Wimbledon title win would draw Djokovic level with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer with 20 Grand Slam Titles to confirm his position as one of the greats of the game, if he’s not there already.

Djokovic is playing some of the best tennis of his career with his returns keeping him points he has not real right to remain in. In the top half of the Wimbledon draw, Djokovic is drawn to meet the free-swinging Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals and a rematch against French Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas looms in the semis.

The case for Roger Federer to make the Wimbledon Final
Realistically, its tougher to build a case for Roger Federer to make it through to the 2021 Wimbledon final to face Djokovic. Many tennis fans breathed a collective sigh of relief as Djokovic and Federer were placed in opposite ends of the draw, but Federer is coming back from serious injury and fighting father time with his 40th birthday approaching. The Swiss all-time equal Grand Slam leader with 20 titles has given himself the best chance after withdrawing from the French Open ahead of his fourth-round match with Matteo Berrettini to focus on the grass court season. However, Federer’s loss in the 4th round at Halle to a man almost half his age, Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime, will not have filled his supporters with confidence.

Federer’s biggest selling point is his Wimbledon record. With 8 victories on Wimbledon’s iconic Center Court on final’s day, no-one knows the surface better. To get there, in the bottom half of the draw, Federer will potentially need to defeat both World Number 2 Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals and World Number 6 Sascha Zverev in the semis to get there.

Who will win?
If they can successfully get through their respective sides of the draw, a Djokovic – Federer final would be an enthralling encounter.
Unbelievably, Djokovic, is one of the few players to hold an all-time career edge over Federer, winning 27 of their 50 matches, with 3 of those victories coming in 4 Wimbledon encounters.

The numbers point towards a Novak Djokovic attempt at the calendar year Grand Slam at this September’s US Open.
