California Baptist University - Recruiting Info
Location CBU is located in Riverside, California, which is located in Southern California, about an hour East of Los Angeles at the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains. The campus is less than hour from the Beaches in Orange County and less than an hour from the Ski Resort at Big Bear Mountain. There are numerous professional sports teams within an hour of the University: Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers (Basketball), Los Angeles Dodgers and the Anaheim Angeles (Baseball), Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings (Hockey), Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA (Soccer), and the Tiger Woods’ Target World Challenge (PGA). CBU is also located very close to both Disneyland and Universal Studios at Hollywood. The campus is conveniently located near two prominent airports: Ontario International Airport (ONT) is 30 minutes away, and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is an hour away. Student-Life The CBU campus comprises over 100-acres and is located in the Magnolia District of Riverside. Currently, there is a student population of approximately 4,000 students. There are two on-campus dorms (Smith Hall and Simmons Hall); there is another currently under construction. And there are three on-campus apartment communities (The Cottages, Lancer Arms, and University Place). The student cafeteria (known as the Alumni Dining Commons) and the university café (known as Wanda’s Place) are some of the best on-campus dining establishments on the West Coast. The International Center at CBU is committed to helping you adjust to life on a university campus. Academics CBU offers approximately 100 academic study majors (some of the most popular are Business, Communications, Journalism, and Engineering); each of these majors is conducted within one of nine academic colleges. Class sizes are kept relatively small in order to assure close contact with your professors. Each program is nationally and regionally accredited and offers every student an education that is one of the best offered in the Western United States. Tennis The CBU Athletic Program is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes within the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC). The level of competition within the NAIA and the GSAC is some of the strongest in the nation. The Women’s Tennis Program is comprised of a good mix of both American and International talent. In addition to players from the United States, the women’s team currently has players from Brazil, Sri Lanka, and America. The team always strives to compete inside the top-5 of the nation, thus giving ourselves the opportunity to compete for a National Championship. To accomplish this, we play both a Fall and extensive Spring schedule. While the majority of matches are played within California, we do travel to Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Texas to compete against other competitive universities. I also support all my players as they take advantage of the ITA/WTA tournaments which come through Southern California. The experience gained from these events is a great way to prepare for your collegiate season and also to further your experience in pursuit of a WTA ranking.
