 Kathleen Thompson
Thompson, a native of Queensbury, NY, is beginning her ninth year coaching tennis at Central Alabama Community College, and her eighth as head coach.  She spent her first seven years as Head Coach, stepping down for the 2007-2008 season to spend more time with her young family.  From 2000-2007, her men’s teams compiled a record of 67-35 (.657), while her women’s teams compiled a record of 79-39 (.669).  Her Men’s squad won conference titles in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007.  Her Women’s squad won the conference in 2005, 2006, and 2007.  She was named Coach of the Year for Region 22 each of those years.  Both men’s and women’s teams qualified for and competed in the NJCAA National Championships in Texas and Arizona for six of her seven years, with the women placing their highest of 7th in 2004 and her men placing their highest of 11th in 2003.  She has coached two ITA First Team All-Americans, and twelve NJCAA Academic All-Americans.  Numerous CACC players have finished the fall and spring seasons with national rankings.  In 2006, Thompson was named Wilson/ITA NJCAA Women’s National Coach of the Year.  She is the Chairperson of the ITA National Junior College Awards Committee, as well as Chairperson of the ITA Men’s National Ranking Committee.  Thompson is a 1992 graduate of Queensbury High School in Queensbury, NY where she played varsity tennis, basketball, and softball.  Her basketball team was a state finalist in 1992, and she and her doubles partner placed 3rd in doubles at the New York State Tennis Championships. Thompson graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.  At Nazareth, she played four years of varsity tennis and three years of varsity basketball.  She was captain of the tennis team for two years, and played #1 singles for her last three years.  She is Nazareth’s all-time leader in victories with 165 (including 83 singles wins).  She won two state doubles titles, as well as one state singles title, and was invited to the NCAA National Championships in singles and doubles her last two years.  Thompson was the ITA Northeast Region Doubles champion two years in a row, qualifying her and her partner for the ITA Small College National tournaments.  Her junior year, she and her partner were national runners-up.  She was ranked nationally as high as 19th in singles and 3rd in doubles, and named an Academic All-American in 1996. Thompson was also the leading scorer and MVP of Nazareth’s 1996 State Championship women’s basketball team.  She was inducted into the Nazareth College Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. This is Thompson’s ninth year coaching at CACC, but her thirteenth year coaching tennis overall.  She spent two years as the assistant women’s coach at Auburn University, and one year each as the head coach at Valley High School and Auburn High School.  She has spent many summers teaching tennis at various camps and clubs. Thompson is also a 1998 graduate of Auburn University with a Masters degree in Secondary Mathematics Education.  She currently teaches three math classes at CACC in addition to her duties as tennis coach.  She is the daughter of John and Marylois Moynihan of Queensbury, NY.  She married Jason Thompson of Castleberry, AL in July of 2002 and had sons Collin in June 2005 and Camuel in April 2007.  She, Jason, Collin, and Cam currently reside in Alexander City.
