Columbia Tennis Represented in Singles and Doubles Semifinals at Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Kanika Vaidya will represent the Columbia women's tennis team in the semifinals of the singles A flight, while the doubles duo of Bianca Sanon and Tiana Takenaga have advanced to the semifinals of the doubles bracket at the Cissie Leary Invitational.
Vaidya won a pair of matches Saturday to earn her spot in the semifinals. Going up against teammate Crystal Leung in the round of 16, Vaidya dropped the opening set, but rebounded to win the next two. Vaidya met Richmond's Melissa Kandinata in the quarterfinals and was able to defeat her in just two sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Hanna Yu from Yale will face Vaidya in the semifinals Sunday morning with the winner advancing to face the victor of Stephanie Do (Penn) and Annie Sullivan (Yale) in the finals.
Sanon and Takenaga faced a tough doubles team in Dartmouth's Julienne Keong and and Janet Liuin the round of 16, but edged out the Big Green tandem, 9-7.
It was an all-Columbia quarterfinals matchup, as Leung and Amy Li defeated Maryland's Welma Luus and Vroni Van Berlo, 9-7, to move onto to face Sanon and Takenaga. It would be Sanon and Takenaga that would come out ahead, using an 8-3 decision to earn a spot in semifinals Sunday.
Play will continue Sunday with singles action at 9:15 a.m.
