 Chuck Kinyon

Entering his 21st season at the helm of the Big Green tennis program, Chuck Kinyon has established himself as one of the most respected and influential coaches in the East, as well as the nation. Under the leadership of Kinyon, Dartmouth has risen to prominence in the Ivy League and the East. The 1992 squad capped the Kinyon era with Dartmouth's first Co-Ivy League Championship. The 1997 team captured the same honors. The '90's have seen Kinyon's teams ranked consistently in the top 5 of Region I. Last year's squad finished the season with a 13-8-1 overall record, 3-4 in the Ivies. Individually, two Kinyon players have qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships. Over his career, his Dartmouth teams have compiled an overall record of 215-157-1 (58%), 80-80 (50%) in the Ivies.

As recent chairman of the NCAA Region I Coaches Committee, Kinyon has been at the forefront of bringing collegiate tennis into the computer age. He has helped establish regional computerized rankings and a newsletter for Region 1. With his involvement, Kinyon keeps Dartmouth and it's players in the mainstream of region and national play. He is often consulted by fellow coaches on various rules and legislation. In 1994 Kinyon was awarded the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Coach of the Year award for New England region and for the 1994-95 season ITA coach of the year in region I .

A graduate of the University of Louisville ('67), Kinyon played both tennis and soccer. He went on to obtained his Masters of Education at Penn State University while coaching both freshman tennis and soccer teams. Kinyon began his head coaching career at the campus of Penn State-Altoona and took the tennis program to regional and national NJCAA prominence. After heading up the Racket Sports Program at Phillips Exeter Academy, Kinyon came to Hanover in 1980 as the head squash and assistant tennis coach. He took over head tennis duties in 1983 and directed both the tennis and squash programs until he relinquished his squash duties in 1989.

During the summers, Kinyon is the Director of Tennis at the prestigeous Quechee Club in Quechee, VT. He still maintains an active playing schedule, as witnessed by his capturing the ITA Men's 40's Singles Championship in 1995 at Saddlebrook in Florida.

A native of Rochester, NY, Kinyon and his wife Sue have two daughters Cynthia and Christine.
