 Peter Burling

Tennis Coach Peter Burling enters his 15th year as head of the men's tennis team and his sixth year leading the women's squad in 2004-05.  Bringing a tremendous amount of experience and leadership to the tennis programs, Burling has been at the head of a continuously winning tradition.

 

This past season the women's squad captured their third consecutive NCAC championship and finished the year ranked sixth nationally. Burling was named NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year after posting a 19-3 record overall and going 7-0 in conference play.  A four-time NCAC coach of the year, Burling led the women's team to the NCAA tournament for the third straight year in 2004. 

 

The men's team has also met a tremendous amount of success under Burling’s leadership.  He has garnered the NCAC Coach of the Year award in 1992, 1994, 1998, 1999 and 2001.  Coach Burling has also been named NCAA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year and USPTA Midwest Coach of the Year.  Since 1978, the Denison Tennis Team has put together seventeen NCAC Championship titles.

 

Burling, originally from Orleans, Massachusetts, currently resides in Granville with his wife Patricia and son Colin.  His older son Scott works and resides in New York City.  Coaching with a USPTA Level 1 status, has also provided him the opportunity in developing the area's top junior talent.  Some of the schools that his players have gone on to play at include top tennis programs such as Michigan, Northwestern, Virginia, Boston College, Furman and UC-Davis.
