FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Eastern Illinois tennis earned a hard-fought win on the road, traveling to face the IPFW men’s squad in a Sunday afternoon matchup. The Panther men pulled out a nice 5-2 win, evening their record to 1-1 on the season.
The squad picked up the important doubles point after taking two of three duos. The Panthers then followed that up by taking four of the six singles events. Winners included senior
Jeff Rutherford at the top of the lineup, followed by sophomore
Matyas Hilgert winning at No. 2 Singles, where he battled back for a three-set win.
Two EIU freshman picked up key wins as
Warren Race and
Justin Haag won at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
