CHICAGO, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois women’s tennis ended their weekend trip to the windy city with a 6-1 loss at Illinois-Chicago on Sunday afternoon, after earning a nice 5-2 win over Chicago State on Saturday.
The meet loss, which was held at the Evergreen Racquet & Fitness Center, dropped EIU to 2-3 on the early season.
“UIC is a very good team,” said EIU head coach
John Blackburn. “They are annually one of the top programs in the Horizon League.”
Freshman
Merritt Whitley was the lone singles winner for the Panthers, capturing a win at the No. 5 spot. The Panthers lost the important doubles point, with sophomore
Shannon Brooks and freshman
Kristen Laird teaming up to earn the lone duo win at No. 3 doubles.
EIU will once again head up north this coming weekend, as the Panther return to the court versus the Huskies of NIU at 2 pm on Sunday (Feb. 21), with the event being held inside the warm confines of the Clock Tower Racquet Club in DeKalb.
