Freshman Year (2012-13):  Browne was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team after posting a 12-10 overall singles record and a 7-3 league mark, playing mostly at flights three through five.  He opened the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win at number four over Florida A&M, then defeated Presbyterian, 6-4, 6-2, also at flight four.  In February, the rookie put together consecutive wins over ranked opponents, topping #8 Georgia, 6-1, 6-3, and blanking #53 Santa Clara, 6-0, 6-0, both at number five.  Browne began SoCon play with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory versus College of Charleston at number five then put together a five-match winning streak later in the season.  All total, he won seven out of eight singles matches from March 21-April 13, including three-consecutive three-set contests.  For his efforts, he was chosen the SoCon Player of the Week for March 31 after registering a 5-1 singles and doubles record for the three-match span.  In doubles play, Browne teamed primarily with Alex Christ in the top two flights.  The duo went 5-5 in regular-season conference play, including key wins over Samford (9-7) and Wofford (8-7).  In the opening round of the SoCon Tournament, Christ and Browne beat Appalachian State, 8-5.  

Prep/Personal:  Matt Browne competed under head coach Dan Johnson at Lely High School his freshman and sophomore seasons then joined the tennis team at Kentucky Country Day, where he was coached by Lisa Pepper as a junior and senior.  He was chosen team MVP at Lely both his freshman and sophomore years then voted team captain at Kentucky Country Day his senior season.  A Kentucky All-State selection, Browne teamed with Collie Bouchillon of Prospect, Kentucky, to claim the state doubles championship as a senior.  An honor graduate, he was a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.  Matthew Browne was born on December 2, 1993, in Naples, Florida, to Doug and Leslie Browne.  His father played tennis at Iowa, and his mother competed on the tennis team at New Mexico.  He intends to major in biology/pre-med.
