 Michael Vann

When Michael Vann took over as the head men's tennis coach at Goucher midway through the 2005-06 season, the roster was so depleted that there was talk that the Gophers might be forced to cancel their remaining matches. Instead, he immediately got to work rebuilding the roster through on-campus recruiting and was able to guide the team to three victories down the stretch.

Now Vann views his first full season at Goucher as his chance to begin the process of re-establishing his Division III program as one of the best in the Atlantic South region.

Vann, who has been certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association, came to Goucher from Kenyon College where, in the capacity of assistant men's and women's tennis coach, he was involved in all phases of the nationally ranked program, including recruiting and on-court coaching. Prior to that he was an assistant at Bucknell University and the University of Alabama.

As recently as 2005, Vann was the top-ranked player in the men's 25 and 30 singles divisions in Alabama. He also captured a state singles title as a player at John Carroll High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
