Men’s Tennis Fashions Outstanding Weekend

The Liberty men’s tennis team enjoyed one of its best fall results in its three years under head coach Chris Johnson, this past weekend at the Mary Washington Kickoff Tournament.

The seven participating Flames compiling a 27-2 overall record during the two-day event. Last season, Liberty went 17-11 in the same event. The Flames posted an 18-2 mark in singles and their three doubles pairings were unbeaten with a 9-0 record.

Sporting unbeaten records on the weekend were Tristan Stayt, Louis Steyn, Chad Simpson, Giancarlo Lemmi and Juan Reyes. Stayt, Steyn, Simpson and Lemmi each won three singles and three doubles matches. Reyes claimed victory in each of his two singles contests.

Steyn teamed with newcomer Benjamin Wirth to go unbeaten in doubles, while Stayt paired with another newcomer, Siim Tuus, and Simpson and Lemmi teamed for unbeaten doubles weekends.

The Flames will return to fall tournament play in two weeks, when they take part in the three-day Old Dominion tournament, Oct. 2-4, in Norfolk, Va.
