LSU men's tennis travels to texas for rice invitational

HOUSTON, Texas -- Seven members of the LSU men’s tennis team will participate in the Rice Invitational scheduled for Sept. 11-13 at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
Julien Gauthier, Cody Loup, Mark Bowtell and David Roberts will anchor the team with veteran experience.
Newcomers Roger Anderson, Stefan Szacinski and James Turbervill will test their skills for the first time at the collegiate level as the freshmen suit up for the Tigers.
With sophomore standout Neal Skupski and junior Sebastian Carlsson staying behind, each of the players will have a chance to participate at an elevated position.
“This will be a good early-season test for the guys with Neal and Sebastian not going,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “Each of them will have a chance to play up, test themselves and see where they are early in the season.”
Other teams competing in the tournament include Tulane, Southern Methodist University and host team Rice.
In 2008, Hurricane Ike canceled the tournament, but in 2007, the Tigers saw success when Carlsson captured the B Singles Bracket title his freshman season.
Doubles matches will kick off the flighted tournament Friday at 9 a.m. CDT followed by singles competition.
