LSU's Skupski Notches win on day three, singles and Doubles main draws next
Wednesday, 10/07/2009
TULSA, Okla. – LSU men’s tennis sophomore Neal Skupski earned entry into the singles main draw at the D’Novo All-American Championships with a win over North Carolina’s Stefan Hardy 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 on Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
“Neal gained a lot of confidence by getting through this tough match,” LSU assistant coach Danny Bryan said. “He wants to do well so he doesn’t want to stop it at just making it through the qualifying rounds.”
Skupski will also enter the doubles main draw with junior partner Sebastian Carlsson. The No. 18 preseason duo notched a 4-2 record last season before Skupski paired up with former standout Michael Venus and earned a final doubles ranking of No. 4.
“I know Sebastian is excited to play tomorrow,” Bryan said. “The key will be good energy and to get a first-round win.”
The singles and doubles matchups as well as the match times will be released late Wednesday evening.
The 64-player singles main draw and 32-doubles team main draw will begin Thursday with the championship matches concluding Sunday.
