LSU's Skupski rolls to third-round qualifying at all-American championships

TULSA, Okla. – LSU men’s tennis sophomore Neal Skupski secured a spot in the third round of qualifying singles at the D’Novo All-American Championships with a straight-set victory over UNLV’s Mehdi Bouras 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday at Southern Hills Country Club.
The victory positions Skupski one win away from earning entry into the singles main draw.
The LSU sophomore will face North Carolina’s Stefan Hardy in the final qualifying round on Wednesday. Hardy advanced into the third round after defeating Southern Mississippi’s 67th-ranked Patricio Alvarado in a three-set standoff, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
“Neal played a solid match,” LSU assistant coach Danny Bryan said. “Tomorrow he is going to have to play every point and it is going to take his A-game to make it into the main draw.”
Qualifying singles and doubles both conclude on Wednesday with the main draws scheduled for
Oct. 8-11.
