TAMPA, Fla. -- LSU men’s tennis junior Sebastian Carlsson led the Tigers on day two of the University of South Florida Invitational with both a singles and doubles victory on Saturday at the USF Varsity Courts.
In singles, Carlsson cruised past Miami’s Waylon Chin 6-1, 6-1, and sophomore David Roberts picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Hector Nieto.
Neal Skupski, Julien Gauthier and Cody Loup pushed their singles matches into a third-set tiebreaker, but were each narrowly edged out by Miami contenders.
In doubles, Carlsson teamed up with Gauthier to garner an 8-1 victory over Carl Sundberg and his partner Nieto. Tiger tandem Mark Bowtell and James Turbervill also notched a doubles victory after overcoming Chin and Ignacio Taboada, 8-5.
“We played well in doubles today, and Sebastian kept his run going in singles,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We were able to get a couple more wins on the board, and three matches went into tiebreakers. In 10-point tiebreakers, anything can happen.”
Entering the final day of the tournament, Carlsson sits tied with UCF’s Marc Rocafort for tournament leader with 16 singles points, eight for each victory. The Tigers wrap tournament play at the USF Invitational on Sunday with matches beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
