KEY BISCAYNE, Fla.-- The 29th- ranked LSU men’s tennis team notched three doubles victories on Friday at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park on the first day of the Key Biscayne Invitational.

 

“We played under great conditions,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “Each player got better as the day progressed, and we look forward to tomorrow and continuing to work.”

 

Neal Skupski and Stefan Szacinski defeated Michigan’s Jason Jung and Evan King by an 8-6 mark, and newly paired duo Cody Loup and Mark Bowtell defeated Chris Cha and Duncan Muil of Michigan by the same 8-6 mark.

 

Junior duo Sebastian Carlsson and Julien Gauthier edged out Michigan’s Mike Sroczynski and George Navas 9-7 to give LSU a perfect start on the day.

 

Due to the threat of inclement weather, the Tigers played a second round of doubles competition on Friday, but were edged out in each of the four match-ups.

 

LSU newcomer Roger Anderson was the lone Tiger to tally a singles victory on day one against Texas’ Rook Schellenberg. The Coppell, Texas, native defeated Schellenberg with a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-4.

 

LSU resumes competition on Saturday with singles beginning at 10 a.m. CDT.
