KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – The LSU men’s tennis team won six matches as it wrapped competition on Sunday at the Key Biscayne Invitational hosted at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.
“The guys responded well after a tough first day against Texas,” LSU assistant coach Danny Bryan said.
“A lot of the guys were able to get back on track today, and we are looking to continue to improve next week at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships.”
Singles paved the way for a successful final day for the Tigers. Neal Skupski, Julien Gauthier, James Turbervill and Roger Anderson each raced past his opponent for a straight-set victory.
Sebastian Carlsson returned to form after a day-one defeat by Texas’ fifth-ranked Dimitar Kutrovsky. The Uppsala, Sweden, native took his match on the top court by edging out Denver’s Yannick Weihs 6-7, 6-1, 7-6.
LSU earned a victory in one doubles match, and pushed another into a tiebreaker.
Carlsson and Gauthier teamed up to earn their second victories on the day and defeat Denver’s Andrew Landwerlen and David Simson, 8-6.
Anderson and Turbervill had a close match, but fell by a narrow margin to Denver duo Weihs and Jens Vorkefeld. The Tiger tandem held Weihs and Vorkefeld to a 7-4 mark before the Denver team managed to push the match to 7-all and take the tiebreaker.
The Tigers return to action at the SEC Indoor Championships slated for Jan. 15-18 at the Racquet Club of the South in Atlanta, Ga.
