BORSOS ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS AT ITA SOUTHERN REGIONAL
AUBURN, Ala. --- LSU men’s tennis junior Olivier Borsos claimed victories in both the singles and doubles quarterfinals Saturday to clinch a spot in the semifinals at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional in Auburn, Ala.
Borsos got off to a fast start against Alabama’s Vikram Reddy with a 6-3 victory in the first set. He then went on to take care of business, securing his place in the singles semifinals with a 7-6 (2) win in the second set.
In doubles, Borsos paired up with Chris Simpson to capture a hard-earned victory against Mississippi State’s duo of James Chaudry and Zach White, 8-5. Tiger tandem Neal Skupski and Roger Anderson also made an appearance in the doubles quarterfinals Saturday but fell short to Mississippi State’s Louis Cant and Malte Stropp, 8-4.
Tom Knights picked up a victory in the singles back draw by beating Troy’s Patrick Eichler 6-2, 6-3.
“It has been a really good tournament, and we have had the opportunity to play in a lot of matches,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “Olivier’s athleticism and competiveness have really excelled in the final rounds of the tournament. Chris is playing really well under pressure, and Tom is continuing to play strong in the back draw. We are really excited about tomorrow and the opportunity that lies ahead for Olivier.”
Tournament action for the Tigers will begin Sunday at 9 a.m. CT with Borsos and Simpson in doubles and Knights in the back draw for singles.
The singles main draw semifinal will follow at 10:30 a.m.
