 Mark Hathorn

McMurry head tennis coach Mark Hathorn enters his seventh season at the helm of the men's and women's tennis programs.  The women’s team reached post season play, in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation --the 15-member American Southwest Conference.  In addition, the Men’s ream achieved a ranking of fourteen in the Western United States during the course of the 2006/2007 year.

Prior to McMurry, Hathorn was the head professional at Abilene's Fairway Oaks Country Club from 1995 to 2003 and at Walden's Lake Houston Country Club from 1989-95. He has coached many state and nationally ranked juniors and adults and continues to give private lessons..

Hathorn played college tennis at Abilene Christian University from 1980-84 and was the Wildcats' No. 1 player in both singles and doubles as a junior and senior. He has been ranked at both the state and national levels in juniors, college and adult singles. He still enjoys playing in USTA-sanctioned state and national tournaments. In fact, he was ranked in the top 10 nationally in Men's Over 30 singles as recently as 1996.

Hathorn,, and his wife Kelley, a graduate and former student-athlete at McMurry, have three children Amy , Madison , and Kaitlyn .

"My goal is to continue building McMurry tennis into a competitive program in the ASC and to be a force in the nation some day. With the quality of recruits that we continue to attract, anything is possible for now and in the future," Hathorn said.
