in doubles... Competed at the HEB-Baylor Intercollegiate and the Roberta
Alison Fall Classic.
2002-2003
Finished with the best winning percentage among her teammates (.375)...
Finished fifth in "Flight E" singles consolation bracket at the Roberta
Alison Fall Classic... Lost a tough opening match at the St. Mary's Fall
Classic to Tennessee's Breanna Kray in a 6-1, 6-7(3), 1-6 decision...
Defeated South Carolina's Audrey George 6-3, 6-3 in her opening match of the
SEC Fall Classic... Won the "Flight D North" bracket of the SEC Fall
Classic... Teamed with Yumi Ueda for doubles play in the fall and finished
with a 2-2 record... The duo fell 8-4 to then 39th ranked Millie Begovich
and Robin Stephenson of Alabama at the ITA South Regional in "A" doubles...
Finished the spring with an overall 10-11 singles record, second on the
team, and an overall 9-9 doubles record, best on the squad... Competed
mainly on court six, but held a 2-1 record at both the fourth and fifth
positions... Had a 2-3 three-set match record and a 1-3 tiebreak record...
Defeated Alabama's Melissa Minor 1-6, 7-6(4), 10-8, her first SEC victory of
the season... Won back-to-back SEC matches defeating Auburn's Ashley Cowart,
6-4, 6-3, the following match... Won the two matches she competed in with
her partner Yumi Ueda on court two... Partnered with Marcelle Hirt most of
the season, all at the third position... The tandem won four of their first
five matches of the season and had a 2-1 record at home... Recorded two SEC
victories, South Carolina and LSU.
2001-2002
Recorded a 4-8 fall season... Took third in her first collegiate tournament,
the St. Mary's Health System Classic, defeating Purdue's Catie McLevish 6-2,
6-4 and Tennessee's Erin Cohn 7-6, 6-3... Teamed with Yumi Ueda in doubles
action... Won her first collegiate doubles match, knocking off N.C. State's
Jennifer Jassawalla and Kristen Nicholls 9-8(5)... Won two of her last three
doubles outings with Ueda, including a victory over Florencia Basile and
Sabrina Peppl of Mississippi... Spent majority of the spring at the No. 6
position... Won opening match against Saba Khonsari of Centenary in a
shut-out decision, 6-0, 6-0... Was victorious in her only singles match at
the No. 4 position, 6-0, 6-0, against Nikky Crane of Itawamba CC... Lost two
consecutive tough three-set matches against Auburn's Martina Janska and
Ashley Robards of Tennessee, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and 1-6, 6-4, 10-4,
respectively... Paired with Elaine Fagan and Ueda for doubles action...
Finished the spring 2-0 at No. 2 and 3-6 at No. 3 with Ueda, her partner for
the majority of the season... Teamed with Fagan, they defeated Perri Budd
and Amanda Mang of LSU 8-5 for their only SEC doubles victory... Compiled an
overall singles record of 11-21 and a 11-16 doubles.
Pre-MSU
A top-10 junior player in Poland... Competed in the Poland Junior National
Championships in both singles and doubles... Also played in the Polish
Regional Championships and the Poland National Team Championships.
Personal
Justyna Switala was born September 26, 1980... The daughter of Jerzy and
Irena Switala... Received a bachelor's degree in general business in
December 2003... Began working on a M.B.A. in January 2004... Attended
Wroclaw University before coming to MSU.
