 Jeffrey Normile
Normile enters his second season at Occidental in 2012-13, but is no stranger to the SCIAC (Redlands assistant 1990) or the Tigers program, having coached five years at Occidental from 1995 to 1997 as the men’s tennis coach before taking over the women’s program through 1999.  During his 1998 season with the Tigers, he led the men’s team to a national ranking.

Upon his previous experience at Occidental, Normile brings with him an extensive college, club and amateur level coaching that extends over the past 30 years.  He started his coaching and teaching career at Amstelpark in Amsterdam the Netherlands working with sectionally and nationally ranked juniors.  While in Amsterdam, he also worked with a number of the touring pros that were based at the school.

In addition to coaching and teaching, Normile has held the director position at a number of prestigious clubs in Southern California.  For the past six years he has been the Tennis Director and Head Tennis Professional at the Live Oaks Tennis Club in South Pasadena, CA.  Jeffrey has rejuvenated Live Oaks over the past six years coaching a number of ranked juniors throughout Southern California, which includes coaching club USTA teams to sectional champions.

Jeffrey has a reputation of rejuvenating programs, having turned the Tigers men’s team from only 6 players upon arriving to a top 20 showing.  He has also revitalized Live Oaks form dwindling membership to waiting list in short time.   He can also claim responsibility for capturing local club competitions and building a reputable junior program.

“Coach Normile has outstanding tennis knowledge and is a great teacher of fundamentals”, explained Hoffman.  “He has demonstrated that he understands team dynamics and has been successful in rebuilding programs throughout his career.   We are thrilled to have him back at Oxy and are confident that he will heighten the level of competitiveness through recruitment and skill development.”
