Barber was a member of the West Marion High School tennis program for two years and received the Coach's Award for her performance during her second season. Barber was also a member of FFA, was awarded All-Around Cheerleader, and nominated as an ambassador for the United States to take a trip to Washington and to Europe. Barber competed at number five singles and number three doubles during her freshman season at Pearl River, finishing the year with a 12-3 singles record with her only losses to the state champion. Barber was a state finalist in the number five singles draw and a state semifinalist with partner Katie Wood of Sumrall, Mississippi in the number three doubles draw. Barber was awarded Most Valuable Player for the 08-09 year. She was a major contributor to the Lady Wildcats’ 8-4 winning record. The team’s only losses were to eventual state champs Jones Junior College and state runner-up Hinds Community College. During the fall, Barber competed in the 2009 Wilson/ITA Southern Championships and advanced to the consolation finals along with partner Alyssa Wolfe.
