Purdue Improves to 5-1 with Win Over Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. - The No. 20 Purdue women's tennis team picked up its second ranked win in as many days on Monday. The Boilermakers defeated No. 65 Wichita State on the road, 6-1.
 
Purdue (5-1) started the morning by taking the doubles point. Lynda Xepoleas and Daniela Vidal dominated the No. 2 match against Carla Venticinque and Rebecca Pedrazzi. The sophomores won, 8-2. Mara Schmidt and Krisztina Kapitany clinched the point with a win at No. 1. The Boilermakers defeated Lucia Kovalova and Veronika Blaskova, 8-4.
 
Things didn't get any easier for Wichita State (3-7) in singles. Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum continued her hot play with a quick 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4. The freshman defeated Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul. Schmidt had a dominant win of her own at No. 2. The junior cruised past Kovalova, 6-1, 6-1, to make the score 3-0.
 
Kapitany clinched the win for Purdue with a victory at No. 5. She defeated Montse Blasco Fernandez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Gisella Pere increased the score to 5-0 with a win at No. 6. She defeated Blaskova 6-1 in the first set before the Shocker retired.  Wichita State did get on the board with a win at No. 3. Julia Schiller topped Vidal in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The No. 105 singles player in the country wrapped up the match with a victory at No. 1. Xepoleas got back on the winning track with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pedrazzi.
 
The Boilermakers currently have the highest ranking in program history. The team will see if that changes tomorrow when the next ITA College Tennis Poll is scheduled to be released.
 
The team will be back in action next Saturday when it travels to Western Michigan to take on the Broncos. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
