Rudolf Siwy
Bringing top-level experience, Bronco head coach Derek Mills hired Rudy Siwy as an assistant coach beginning in September 2012. Siwy, a former collegiate player, played professionally on the ATP tour while also working at a top tennis academy in Fresno, Calif.
Originally from Trinec, Czech Republic, Siwy was a four-year letter winner at Fresno State. As a junior and senior he served as the Bulldogs’ No. 1 singles player. As a singles player, he achieved an all-time high singles ranking of No. 35 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's singles rankings. As a junior in 2008, Siwy upset No. 3 Daniel Vallverdu of Florida in the first round of the 2007 ITA All-American after winning three matches in the qualifying rounds. He went 19-5 during the regular season and beat No. 5 Andre Begemann of Pepperdine 2-6, 6-3 and 6-2 late in the dual match season.
Siwy won the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year award and was named First Team All-WAC. As a senior in 2009, he again garnered First Team All-WAC in both singles and doubles while making the 2009 NCAA Singles Tournament. In the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament, Siwy pulled off an upset over No. 27 Michael Shabaz of Virginia in a three-set thriller. He defeated Shabaz 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3. Siwy finished his career with 80 collegiate wins, 13th on the Fresno State career wins list.
Academically at Fresno State, Siwy received a Bachelor’s degree in Geology while accruing several academic awards including: Outstanding Undergraduate Student, the Exceptional Achievement Award and the Fresno Gem and the Mineral Society Scholarship.
After finishing his career at Fresno State, he began to coach with Brad Stine, a former coach of the ATP No. 1 Jim Courier, at the Stine 360 Tennis Academy in Fresno, Calif. While coaching with Stine, Stine also served as Siwy’s coach as he pursued his tennis career. Siwy quickly became the No. 1 player in the Norcal Men’s Open Division.
In Feb. 2011, Siwy began playing on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), the largest and most recognized professional tennis circuit in the world. He earned his first ATP points at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after winning five matches in the pre-qualifying, eventually losing to Donald Young 6-3, 7-6 in the last round of qualifying.
In Dec. 2011, he achieved a career-high year-end ranking of No. 560 on the ATP tour after winning a $10,000 Futures event in Amelia Island, Fla.
