As a recipient of the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year award and the owner of a 137-132 record, Eric Rebhuhn enters his 13th season in Queens as one of the most decorated coaches in the history of St. John's men's tennis.

 

Despite injuries that plagued the team throughout the fall season, the 2013 outdoor season saw Rebhuhn's squad go 3-1 in the BIG EAST Championship, including wins over higher seeds Georgetown and DePaul, to take a fifth place. The Red Storm was led by its three seniors, including Vasko Mladenov, whom Rebhuhn helped guide to a program record 10-match winning streak at first singles and his second consecutive All-BIG EAST honor. The 2013 season was the first time over the last seven years that a Rebhuhn-coached squad did not reach double-digits in victories, a testament to the level of consistency that Rebhuhn has installed during his tenure at SJU.

 

The 2012-13 season was preceded by Rebhuhn's most successful season at the helm of the program. The Red Storm climbed to a program-best No. 50 in the country and recorded 17 wins for the second consecutive season. Rebhuhn's squad also set program records in wins over ranked opponents (four) and home victories (10). St. John's, a No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, defeated Marquette in the quarterfinal round and finished in fourth place for the second-straight season. Two of Rebhuhn's players, Vasko Mladenov and Ilija Vuci, were named to the All-BIG EAST Conference Team, the most Red Storm players on an All-BIG EAST squad in program history.

 

Rebhuhn and the Red Storm took a large step forward in 2010-11, finishing with a program record 17 wins - its six-straight double-digit win season - and a fourth place finish at the BIG EAST Championship. St. John's also defeated a program-best three ranked opponents and earned its first national ranking during the campaign - coming in at No. 64 on March 7, 2011. Rebhuhn also set a personal coaching milestone in 2011, notching his 100th-career win at St. John's with a 5-2 decision over Dartmouth (Feb. 18) at the annual ECAC Team Championships. The Red Storm has now recorded eight double-digit win campaigns under Rebhuhn.

 

In 2009-2010, St. John's finished the season with 11 overall wins. Rebhuhn led STJ to a fifth place finish in BIG EAST play in 2008-09 with a 12-10 overall mark, which included a 3-1 record in league action.

 

During the 2007-08 campaign, he guided the team to a 13-13 record, including a 2-2 mark in the conference during the regular season. In the postseason, the Red Storm men finished sixth at the annual BIG EAST Championships in Tampa, Fla.

 

From 2004-07, Rebhuhn led STJ to a top-five finish in the conference tournament each season. The Red Storm finished the 2006-07 season with a 14-11 record and a third place finish at the BIG EAST Championships. During the 2005-06 season, he guided the team to its best finish in 13 years with a 13-5 record, and a fifth-place finish at the conference tournament. In 2004-05, despite a 5-12 record, the team finished in third place at the BIG EAST Championships.

 

After being hired in 2001, Rebhuhn's first season with the Red Storm produced a 6-11 mark. In 2002-03, the team earned double-digit wins with an 11-12 record, and then followed with its first winning season under Rebhuhn, going 13-11 in 2003-04.

 

Prior to arriving at St. John's, Rebhuhn spent four seasons as the head coach of both the men's and women's tennis programs at the University of Northern Iowa. During his last season, the women's team was ranked as high as 68th nationally.

 

Rebhuhn played tennis for four years at Concordia College in New York, winning more than 150 matches. Rebhuhn continues to compete at a high level, as he has been consistently ranked No. 1 or 2 in the East in the 25-and-over and 30-and-over divisions over the last five years.

 

A Great Neck, N.Y., native, Rebhuhn earned his B.S. in psychology from Concordia in 1993 while on a tennis scholarship. He earned his master's degree in physical education with a specialization in sports psychology at the University of Northern Iowa. Rebhuhn currently resides in Westchester, N.Y., with his wife, Jackie, their two sons, Jake and Dylan.
