TOPSPIN: Coming off such a fantastic first season, this is the year Will proves his freshman campaign was no fluke...made the move from high school to college tennis well...made a name for himself and set a solid foundation for his career... has good groundstrokes and fundamentally solid from each side... forehead is potentially his best shot with pinpoint accuracy...uses his backhand well and will hit the passing shot when needed...good serve and working hard to add some punch.. can pound the ball from the baseline or come to the net when needed... a solid singles player, but look for him to play doubles at some position in the lineup...needs to work on his physical strength and the mental part of the game... strong future and will only get better with time.
AT TECH: (2001-2002) - Will exploded on to the tennis scene with a fantastic freshman season...finished the year with a 23-9 singles mark and a respectable 15-12 doubles record, good enough to earn the rookie all-conference recognition...took awhile to become accustomed to college tennis, opening the year on a slow note...he won three of his first six matches and six of his first 12 contests...but that's when Will turned things around and caught fire...won 17 of his last 20 matches with streaks of six and 11 matches in a row...biggest wins came in victories over Chastain Orers of St. John's, Tony Tran of Toledo and Ariel Furfuro of Charleston  Southern...had best doubles success with teammate Piotr Wawrzyniak, going 13-6 on year...lost in the doubles final at the OVC championship.
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered four years under coach Ann Ham at Bearden High School... helped team capture district, region and state championships in three consecutive seasons... closed out high school playing days with a 91-14 record...semifinalist at the National Boys 18s Indoor Championship.
PERSONAL: The son of Bill and Cheryl Chappell... birthdate is June 8, 1983... majoring in engineering.
