2012 FALL RESULTS (FRESHMAN): The freshman lefty led Texas A&M in doubles victories with a 12-2 record and enters the spring season ranked a school-record high No. 7 in the nation with junior Cristina Stancu...Hristov opened the fall season going a combined 5-1 with partners Wen Sun and Anna Mamalat before pairing with countrywoman Stancu in the third tournament of the season, the ITA Texas Regional...In their first competition, the Romanian duo went 6-0, including a 9-7 victory over sixth-ranked Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo of Texas Tech in the round of 16, en route to the ITA Texas Regional championship and an automatic berth to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships...Hristov and Stancu finished the fall season 8-1, including 2-1 against ranked opponents...Hristov was 5-4 in singles matches, including 1-2 against ranked opponents...Her first ranked singles win was a 6-4, 6-0 victory over No. 109 Jordaan Sanford of Baylor in the second round of the Texas Regional.
PREVIOUS ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Competed in numerous ITF tournaments...Reached the singles finals at the Plantation (Fla.) ITF in May 2012...Also in 2012, reached the semifinals at the Cop Milo tournament in Santiago, Chile, and made quarterfinal appearances at the Delray Beach ITF and the Uruguay Bowl...In 2010, she advanced to the semifinals in singles at both the Kentucky International Tennis Derby and the ITF Ukrzakhid...In doubles, reached the finals at the Wichita Falls ITF and the semifinal round at both the Atlanta ITF and the Instiriq Cup in 2011...Her most memorable moment came at a hometown tournament, the $10,000 Iasi, in which she eventually reached the quarterfinals after posting a first round upset over the No. 5 seed Tereza Malikova, a Czechoslovakian who was No. 678 in the WTA world rankings. "It was the last tournament before I came to college and everybody (newspapers, TV, people) was asking me about college," Hristov said.
PERSONAL: Stefania Hristov is the daughter of Adrian and Elena Hristov of Iasi, Romania...Has an older brother, Andrei...Began playing tennis when she was 6 years old...Her only official recruiting visit was to Texas A&M, and she said, "After the first day, I knew that this is where I wanted to study and play. I was really impressed with the tennis facilities and the coaches, how they treat the girls on the team and the attention they have. Also the campus and the classes impressed me a lot"...Hobbies include shopping, spending time with friends, listening to music, and walking on the beach at sunset...Is majoring in sport management...Born September 16, 1994, in Iasi, Romania.
