2012 FALL RESULTS (FRESHMAN): Made her Aggie debut at the Midland Racquet Collegiate Invitational and had an impressive start...Won her first three matches, including two against ranked opponents to advance to the semifinals...Defeated Carmen Sandor of Penn State, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, in her first match as an Aggie and followed with straight-set wins over 56th-ranked and No. 3 seed Stephanie Tan of TCU and No. 105 Rashmi Teltumbde of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-4, to reach the semifinal round, where she fell to 52nd-ranked Petra Januskova of Penn State...Finished the fall 6-9 in singles...Went 6-3 in doubles, including 3-0 with fellow freshman Stefania Hristov to win the Flight 1 doubles title at the Rice Fall Invitational...Also went 2-1 with senior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar.
PREVIOUS ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: A blue-chip recruit by Tennis Recruiting Network, had been ranked as high as fourth and was rated as the 12th-top recruit in the nation when she signed with Texas A&M in November 2011...Was No. 582 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings and won the ITF International Grass Court Championships in both 2010 and 2011...In addition, earned a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) professional ranking on the strength of having reached the semifinals of two $10,000 challengers and the quarterfinals of two other $10,000 challengers...Other top tournament finishes include winning the 2009 Mike Agassi Girls 18 National in Las Vegas and the 2008 Labor Day Championships Girls 18, as well as reaching the finals at the 2009 USTA Winter Nationals Girls 18s and the 2009 Gator Bowl...Also won the 2012 U.S. Open National Playoffs Middle States Sectional Qualifier
PERSONAL: Anna Mamalat is the daughter of Anatoliy and Galina Mamalat...Has an older brother, Daniil, who is a junior on the Marquette University tennis team, and a younger brother, David...Began playing tennis when she was 4 years old...Most memorable moment of athletic career is winning Grass Court Championships two consecutive years...Made official recruiting visits to Oklahoma State, Wake Forest and Georgia, but chose to sign with Texas A&M because, "I love the tennis and academics here at A&M.
