COACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Coached nine years at Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, TX, where his teams won five state team championships—class 5A, and two girls’ interscholastic team championships; at TJC his teams have won nine men’s and nine women’s national tennis championships; named USPTA Coach of the Year in 1997.

WILSON/ITA NATIONAL COACH OF THE DECADE WINNERS ANNOUNCED Intercollegiate Tennis Association and Wilson Sporting Goods honor men's and Women's tennis coaches from five divisions.

The winners for achievements for the past 10 years (excluding this past spring) are: Frank Brennan, Stanford (NCAA Division I women); Joe Cabri, Lander (NCAA Division II men); Dick Gould, Stanford (NCAA Division I men); Bob Hansen, UC Santa Cruz (NCAA Division III men); Ann Lebedeff, Cal Poly-Pomona (NCAA Division II women); Mike Perez, Lynn (NAIA women); John Peterson, Tyler Junior College (JC men and women); Colin Robertson, Oklahoma City (NAIA men); and Paul Wardlaw, Kenyon (NCAA Division III women).

Tyler's Peterson is the only coach of the decade to sweep the awards in his division, winning the men's and women's honors at the Junior College level. Peterson led the Tyler men to seven NJCAA Division I titles in '90-91, '94-95, and '96-98. He led the Tyler women to five titles during the decade in '93-95 and '98-99. Overall he captured 12 NJCAA titles during the decade.

PERSONAL: B.A., Buena Vista College (Iowa); he and wife, Dorothy, have two children and three grandchildren.
