Univ. of Arkansas, Fayetteville - Facilities

The Lady Razorbacks have a proud tradition of providing the best athletic facilities the world can offer, and the Dills Indoor Tennis Center is no exception. Constructed in 1982, the structure was originally known as the University of Arkansas Track and Tennis Complex. In 2002, the facility was renamed the Dills Indoor Tennis Center and dedicated solely to the netted sport, offering the latest to competitive collegiate tennis athletes of today.
When the building was rededicated, massive internal renovations were made to complex to provide one of the best facilities in the country. Two more courts were added, giving Dills six extremely fast indoor courts. With six courts, the indoor complex proved to be ideal when the sometimes cold, unpredictable weather of Northwest Arkansas prevented matches from being played outside. The speedy courts were resurfaced in 2003, along with the addition of 96 brand new halogen lights to illuminate the arena.
The stadium seating of the Dills Indoor Tennis Center puts even the most die-hard tennis enthusiast at ease. With 500+ chair back seats and standing capacity for 200+ more, the Dills Indoor Tennis Center is one of the largest in the country. Recently added to the enjoyment of Lady’Back tennis fans, six new electronic scoreboards were added along with a state-of-the-art sound system.
Large heaters and a new insulated ceiling provide a warm environment in even the coldest of winters, allowing athletes to improve their skills all 12 months of the year. The indoor center includes locker rooms for women’s and men’s programs, coaches’ offices and lobby. The facility hosted the men’s 1994 Southeastern Conference Championships and the women’s SEC in 1997. The Lady Razorbacks also played host to the 1998 SEC Fall Championships.

The UA Varsity Courts have played home to Arkansas women’s and men’s tennis since its dedication in 1982. The courts play a major part in the latter part of the season when the Northwest Arkansas weather is considered by some to be perfect. The courts lie adjacent to the Dills Indoor Tennis Center, which played home to Arkansas tennis and indoor track until the facility was dedicated solely to tennis in 2000.
The 10-court facility was resurfaced in the summer of 2003 and with the reputation for having particularly fast outdoor courts. The courts also feature low separation fences between each of the courts.
Designers of the courts did not forget the fans when constructing the outdoor arena. The facility has a large scoreboard projecting current scores as well as smaller scoreboards on all competitive courts. Fans can enjoy the match from a bird’s eye perspective in the bleachers that lie between the courts.
One of the most unique features of the UA Varsity courts is the quaint location of the complex. Tucked neatly behind the University of Arkansas Intramural Fields, the courts are almost hidden from traffic on Razorback Road. This allows for a peaceful match setting that appeals to both athletes and fans.
The Varsity Courts have played host to both the Southwest Conference and Southeastern Conference championships.
