Fall 2001: In the fall, Julie went 3-7 in singles and 0-2 in dual match play at No. 1. She teamed with Kelly Kiehna at No. 1 doubles where they finished 1-1. Her wins in singles came over conference foes Memphis and UAB with Toledo being her other win.
As a Freshman: Overall last year, Julie posted a 16-22 record and was 10-13 in dual match play primarily at No. 2 singles. She put together a streak last spring of seven wins in a row including wins over Southern Illinois, UC Santa Barbara, and Middle Tennessee. She had four different doubles partners going 5-12 with Katie McLaughlin, 1-3 with Paige Eber, 0-2 with Kelly Kiehna and 5-11 with Mariana Torres. In the fall, she compiled seven singles wins over players from Murray State, Southwest Missouri State, UT-Chattanooga, Butler, Indiana State, Purdue and Bethune-Cookman. Combined with Katie McLaughlin to record four doubles wins.
In High School: Lettered four years in tennis under Coach Patti Clousing. Finished sixth in the state her junior year. Earned All-Conference Academic honors all four years. Sectional champion all four years. Also lettered in track.
Personal: Daughter of Bruce and Anita Penn. Birthdate is Feb. 8, 1982. Majoring in Finance/Accounting.
