Fall 2002: In the fall of 2002, Melisa played in all three scheduled tournaments. She paired with Kelly Taylor in doubles where they had wins over Indiana and Syracuse.
Spring 2002: Melisa played No. 1 singles primarily for the Cardinals. She was also No. 1 doubles. She had a 4-24 overall record in singles and she has been a Red & Black Scholar, and Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll member for seven semesters.
Fall 2001: Melisa went 6-4 in singles play with wins over Tennessee, TCU and Marquette. She paired with Kelly Kiehna in doubles primarily in Flight B including wins over TCU, Marquette, Jacksonville State and Georgia State.
As a Sophomore: Melisa went 9-10 overall in singles and 2-4 in dual match play, primarily at No. 4 and No. 5. In the fall, she posted a team-leading 9-5 singles record. In doubles, she went 10-20. Defeated players from Indiana State, Murray State, Southwest Missouri, UT-Martin, Georgia State, Arkansas State, Xavier, Eastern Illinois and Cincinnati. Put together a five-match win streak. Combine with Stutti Smit for two doubles wins.
As a Freshman: Recorded a team-best 20-18 overall record in singles. Went 15-7 in dual matches, playing mostly at No. 5. Teamed with Katie McLaughlin, Kelly Whitler, Beckett Hoyt and Kelly Kiehna for a 19-17 overall doubles record. Was named Most Improved in the 1999-2000 season for the Cardinals. Attended U of L’s Red & Black Dinner. Earned Conference USA Commissioner’s List honors.
In High School: Lettered in tennis three years under coach Rob Yem and helped her team to wins at district and regionals. She was a Wendy’s Heisman nominee. Graduated in the top 5% of her class with above a 4.0 GPA. Earned MVP honors three years.
Personal: Daughter of Rick and Lisa San Martin. Birthdate is March 21, 1981. Major is biology, with a minor in criminal justice.
