Senior scores win over fellow top-15 opponent, remains unbeaten in league play
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second time in as many weeks and third time this season, Miami senior Bianca Eichkorn has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
The 10th-ranked Eichkorn remained unbeaten in ACC play at the Hurricanes’ No. 1 singles position with a 6-2, 6-0 win over No. 6 North Carolina’s 14th-ranked Zoe De Bruycker on March 9 in Coral Gables. Eichkorn, who also beat TCU’s Olivia Smith, 6-2, 6-2, last Saturday, is now 13-1 in dual match play, including a perfect 4-0 mark against ACC opponents. The win over De Bruycker – who later in the week defeated Michigan’s fifth-ranked Denise Muresan – was Eichkorn’s ninth against a ranked opponent this year.
The Tengen, Germany native also went 1-1 in Miami’s No. 1 doubles position, picking up an 8-7 victory over TCU’s Federica Denti and Katariina Tuohimaa alongside teammate Anna Bartenstein. On the season, Eichkorn is 24-5 overall and 13-1 in dual match play in the Hurricanes’ top singles position and 19-4 overall and 12-2 in dual match play teaming with Bartenstein at No. 1 doubles.
