Monday, 06/29/2009

WIMBLEDON, England – Devin Britton of the Ole Miss men’s tennis team won his first match at Junior Wimbledon Monday, taking out the No. 7 seed, Japan’s Shuichi Sekiguchi, in 44 minutes at the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club.

Britton won the first set 6-4 and then dominated the second set 6-0, winning 80 percent of the points on his first serve to win his seventh match in a row after capturing the Roehampton International Junior last week.  The youngest NCAA singles champion ever, Britton will face Sebastian Lavie of New Zealand in the second round.

The Jackson, Miss., native is also competing in doubles with Jordan Cox, who he teamed with last week in winning at Roehampton.

Britton is blogging throughout the championships.  To read his blog go to www.OleMissSports.com and click on the link in the story.
