2004-05 Outlook:

Gitte Ostermann (pronounced GIT-ta OH-ster-man) enters her final season as a Husker as one of the top players in the Big 12 and the nation.  With a No. 44 national rinking, this marks the third consecutive year that Ostermann has earned a pre-season ranking.  She proved the ranking was deserved by winning the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa. Okla.  In the process, she defeated two ranked opponents and has posted a 7-1 fall record.

Coach Scott Jacobson is excited about what is to come from the talented senior.  Jacobson said Ostermann is as talented as anyone in Nebraska history.  She has consistently progressed, and her senior year could be her best, Jacobson said.

Ostermann will be the No. 1 singles player for the Huskers.

2003-04: Junior
Ostermann entered the 2004 season as one of the nation's elite players after an impressive 2003 fall campaign. Ostermann recorded a 14-4 fall record, including a 6-2 mark against ranked opponents. Ostermann was the runner-up at the ITA Central Region Championships, then the highest finish ever by a Husker. She was also the first Husker ever to be invited to the ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships, where she produced a 1-1 record.

However, an injury slowed Ostermann’s start in the spring season.  Following her return, she quickly gained momentum on her way to posting an 11-7 record.  She also received a bid to play in the NCAA Tournament, where she lost a three set thriller match in the first round.

In doubles action, Ostermann teamed with team captain Katie Garcia, for a 14-7 record at the No. 2 doubles slot.  By the end of the year, their success was recognized nationally with a No. 74 ranking.

2002-03: Sophomore
Though not fully recovered from off-season shoulder surgery, Ostermann managed to produce a winning record while playing most of her matches at No. 1 singles. Ostermann posted an 8-6 record, including a 6-5 mark from the top spot in the lineup. She went 4-3 against league opponents and became the first Husker since the 2000 season to earn All-Big 12 Conference honors.

In doubles action, Ostermann finished with a 3-7 record. She was most successful at No. 2 doubles, where she went 2-1. Both wins were with classmate Katie Garcia.

Ostermann missed the fall season while recovering from shoulder surgery.

2001-02: Freshman
When healthy, Ostermann played in the No. 1 singles spot. Against Colorado, she suffered a wrist injury that forced her to miss six matches. In singles action, she finished the season with a 5-6 record with victories over two ranked opponents, Jessica Roland of Texas A&M, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0, and Vladka Uhlirova, of Texas, 6-2, 7-5. Overall she went 2-4 against ranked opponents.

In doubles action, Ostermann finished with a 7-3 record. She teamed with Katarina Balan to defeat 14th-ranked Jessica Roland and Ashley Hedberg of Texas A&M, 8-4.

In the fall, Ostermann went 2-1 in singles and doubles action.
