2004-05 Outlook:

Katie Garcia will once again provide quality depth in the bottom half of a talented Husker lineup.  Her presence will be felt not only on the court, but also off of it.  The Huskers’ three-time captain has provided solid leadership for Nebraska, and has continued to improve every year under Coach Scott Jacobson.  Jacobson said Garcia in the most improved player he has ever coached.  Her foot speed has improved dramatically since her freshman year, and she is striking the ball harder and more consistently than ever, Jacobson said.

Garcia will most likely team with Gitte Ostermann or Pamela Castillejos at the No. 1 or No. 2 doubles slot this year.  Garcia and Castillejos had a fast start with three victories over conference foes in the ITA Regional Championships during the fall season.

2003-04: Junior
Garcia served as the team captain for the second straight year.  She performed well bringing up the bottom part of
Nebraska’s singles lineup with a 13-6 record at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots.  Garcia went 6-5 in conference play.

She also made her presence felt on the doubles courts, where she posted a total doubles record of 17-8.  She saw most of her action with Gitte Ostermann, a 14-7 record at the No. 2 doubles slot, including a six match winning streak.  In conference they posted a 6-6 record.  At the end of the year, they were ranked No. 74 nationally.

2002-03: Sophomore
Garcia recorded a 3-3 record, going 1-1 at No. 5 singles and 2-2 at No. 6 singles. She went 1-2 in Big 12 action with her lone victory over
Iowa State’s Elizabeth Chermel, 6-1, 6-3.

Garcia posted a 2-1 doubles record, and in both victories, she teamed with classmate Gitte Ostermann. The pair produced wins over Kristina Olshanskaya and Mary Barry of Missouri, 8-1, and Tara Goedjen and Elizabeth Chermel of Iowa State, 8-4.

In the fall, Garcia went 2-4 in singles action and 7-1 in doubles play. At the Lloyd Stokstad Invitational, Garcia teamed with Leslie Harvey to win the "B" Flight Doubles with a perfect 4-0 record.

2001-02: Freshman
Garcia played sparingly throughout the season, earning her lone victory over
Iowa State’s Courtney Lesse, 6-3, 6-7, 6-0. Garcia won two doubles matches during the spring season.

In the fall, Garcia went 2-0 in singles with wins over Marquette’s Amanda Devraj, 6-2, 6-0, and Alexandra Stankovic, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles action, Garcia was 3-0.

High School
Playing for Lincoln Southeast, Garcia was the top player in Class A. Garcia won the No. 1 singles state title as a senior and was named all-state and all-conference.
