2005-06: Outlook

After showing flashes of her ability on the singles court posting a 5-3 conference record. Ellinor Zugner (pronounced Zoog-ner) looks to add quality depth to a talented Husker lineup in 2005-06.

In doubles play, Zugner will probably team with either senior Pamela Castillejos or senior Milena Schulz-Gartner.  Zugner will once again strive to provide production after posting a 7-3 conference doubles record in her first season.

According to Head Coach Scott Jacobson, Zugner made great strides in several aspects of her game last year.  Her serve, volleys and transition game have dramatically improved.  She has one of the biggest serves in the college game, and has a tremendous work ethic.  Zugner is also committed to the team concept, Jacobson said.

He also said Zugner is a tremendous contributor to the team’s overall chemistry.

Zugner has already shown signs of improvement.  In the fall, Zugner posted a 3-0  singles record at the Lloyd Stokstad Invitational at Drake, where she defeated Kara Hickey of Iowa State.  Zugner went on to share the singles  title at the Lloyd Stokstad Tournament with senior teammate Jennifer Cremieux.  In doubles play, Zugner teamed with Cremieux to record a 3-1 record and earned a third-place finish in the doubles bracket.   In their three victories, Zugner and Cremieux outscored their opponents 24-1.

At the ITA Regionals, Zugner and Castillejos defeated conference foes Kara Hickey and Beth Chermel of Iowa State en route to advancing to the third round of the Main Draw of the tournament.

2004-05: Freshman

Zugner did not see action in her first fall with the Huskers, but it did not keep her from making an impact in the spring.  Zugner recorded her first win as a Husker in the home opener against Creighton, when she defeated Shannon Whelan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

Zugner began to see increased playing time at the No. 6 slot so Katie Garcia could play at the No. 5 position when Milena Schulz-Gartner was held out of the lineup.  Zugner utilized her overwhelming serve to make the most of her opportunities, taking four of five conference matches at one point to finish the season with a 6-4 singles record, including a valuable 5-3 Big 12 mark.

On the doubles court, she played mostly with Pamela Castillejos and Milena Schulz-Gartner at the No. 3 slot.  In her one appearance at the No. 1 doubles slot, Zugner and Gitte Ostermann won an important conference match, 8-5, over Missouri.  Zugner posted an 8-3 doubles record with an impressive 7-3 conference record.

Before Nebraska

Zugner attended Adalsskolan High School in Sweden. She was ranked ninth in her age division in Sweden and No. 74 among all women in the country.
