2008-09: Outlook Stephanie Evans made her mark as one of Nebraska’s top players after winning 28 combined matches in her freshman season of 2007-08. Evans missed the 2008 fall season due to injury but is expected to be back to full strength during the spring campaign. After spending most of last season at the No. 4 singles position, Evans will look to secure another regular spot in the Husker lineup this spring.   2007-08: Freshman Evans was one of four freshmen to make an immediate impact for the 2007-08 Husker squad, as she secured a spot in the singles rotation right away in the spring. Evans played most of the season at the No. 4 singles spot, where she had an 11-8 record. She also had a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 5 position.   Evans won her first seven matches, including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Southeast Missouri State’s Elise Nattier, and 11 of her first 13 before struggling in Big 12 play. She was competitive in all of her conference matches, but at one point lost three straight matches on set tiebreakers. She wound up with a 4-7 Big 12 record despite the several close losses.   Evans played most of the season at No. 3 doubles with partner Amber Chandronnait. The duo had a 9-7 record, including six consecutive wins to open the season, before struggling in Big 12 play, where they went 1-6.   Evans advanced to the finals of the “A” Flight Singles at Nebraska’s first fall tournament of the season at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa. Evans won three straight matches to get to the finals, where she had to withdraw due to injury.   Before Nebraska Evans attended Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, Tenn. She played tennis as a freshman and as a senior, winning state championships both years while also going undefeated. She was named Mid-State Player of the Year her freshman and senior year.   Personal Stephanie was born June 3, 1988, in Pittsburgh, Pa. She is the daughter of Randolph and Joan Evans, and has two brothers, Mitchell, 23, and Matt, 21. She is a nutritional science major.
