2008-09: Outlook Abby Buxton goes into her sophomore season with potential to be a consistent performer in Nebraska’s lineup. After winning six matches last spring, Buxton gained the experience to make even bigger contributions this season. Buxton showed flashes of dominance in her freshman season, outscoring her opponents 60-18 in her six victories during the spring. Buxton has worked hard to improve her game over the summer and fall and is primed to become a major player for the Huskers this year. 2007-08: Freshman Buxton had a solid freshman season for the Huskers, filling in at the No. 6 spot during the spring season and recording a 6-2 record, including a 1-2 Big 12 mark. Buxton was dominant during Nebraska’s non-conference schedule, winning all five of her matches in straight sets. Buxton did not allow an opponent to win more than three games in any of those five straight-set non-conference victories. Buxton outscored her opponents by a 60-18 margin in her six victories, all in straight sets. Buxton went 1-1 in two doubles matches in the spring, and after winning two doubles matches and one singles match in the fall, wound up with 10 combined victories for the 2007-08 season. Buxton was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the fall semester, one of six players named to the list. The honor is given to players who achieve at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the semester. Before Nebraska Buxton attended Eden Prairie High School before coming to Nebraska. She was the Section 2AA champion twice while finishing runner-up once. She was ranked as high as 150th in the National 18’s. Buxton was a section 2AA all-conference selection all four years of high school. An outstanding student, Buxton carried a 3.9 GPA throughout her high school career and was a DECA state qualifier. Personal Abby was born July 29, 1989, in Eden Prairie, Minn. She is the daughter of Rex and Susan Buxton. She has one sister, Maddie, 13. She is majoring in finance and will possibly attend law school.
