2008-09: Outlook Jana (pronounced YAW-nuh) Albers will look to improve on a fantastic freshman season in her second year as a Husker in 2008-09. Albers played all of last season in the Nos. 2 and 3 singles spots, earning an 18-5 record, including a 7-4 mark in Big 12 play. Albers also spent the entire season at the No. 1 doubles spot with former Husker Imke Reimers, where they were named Big 12 champions at No. 1 doubles after posting an 8-3 record in league play, including a win over the second-ranked doubles team in the country.   Albers will likely occupy the top of the singles and doubles lineups once again for Nebraska in the spring. Her consistency will be an important part of Nebraska’s success this season.   2007-08: Freshman Albers had one of the most successful freshman seasons in NU history in 2007-08. The Papenburg, Germany, native won 18 matches during the spring season, good for second on the team. Her seven Big 12 wins were also second on the team. Albers played the majority of the season at the No. 3 singles position, where she posted a 14-4 record, and she also went 4-0 at the No. 2 spot.   Albers began the season with 10 consecutive victories, including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Central Oklahoma’s Audrey Donovan. After struggling during the beginning of Big 12 play, Albers finished the season strong with five consecutive straight-set victories, all over Big 12 opponents.   Albers found even more success on the doubles court with fellow Papenburg native Imke Reimers. The duo played all but one match during the spring season at No. 1 doubles, where they compiled a 16-5 record, including an 8-3 Big 12 record. The mark was tops in the Big 12 at the No. 1 spot, making them the Big 12 champions at the top tandem slot. The duo won 11 straight matches to start the season.   The duo was consistently ranked in the ITA doubles rankings throughout the season, and on March 8 upset the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the country in Baylor’s Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova. It was the highest-ranked doubles team a Nebraska duo has ever defeated. Albers and Reimers were named to the All-Big 12 Doubles team as a result of their success.   Before Nebraska Albers graduated from Gymnasium High School in Papenburg, Germany, the same high school that produced former Husker Imke Reimers.   Personal Jana is the daughter of Ludgev Albers and Doris Droege-Albers, and was born on Jan. 13, 1988, in Friesoythe, Germany. Jana has one brother, Pascal, 21. She has not declared a major at Nebraska.
