Ray Sarmiento and Yannick Hanfmann advance to ITA Southwest singles quarters.
MALIBU, CALIF. -- USC men's tennis has two Trojans lined up for quarterfinal slots in singles play out at the ITA Men's Southwest Regional Championships and two teams in Round of 16 doubles play tomorrow in Malibu, Calif.
The morning's doubles action saw a pair of Trojan tandems advance on wins in the Round of 32. No. 3 seeded USC duo Yannick Hanfmann and Daniel Nguyen pinned up an 8-4 win in their morning match, while teammates Emilio Gomez and Ray Sarmiento -- the No. 5 seeds in the draw -- mirrored that score to move on.
In singles play, winning charges were made by No. 2 seed Sarmiento and No. 12 seed Hanfmann. Both Trojans knocked out their opponents with 6-4, 6-4 decisions to roll into tomorrow's quarterfinals, while teammates Eric Johnson, Emilio Gomez were edged out by losses in the Round of 16.
