Tontz is a 2001 graduate of University of San Diego (Calif.) High... Played four years of varsity tennis at No. 1 singles... Named Western League all-section as a junior and senior and All-San Diego city in 2001... Went 47-2 as a senior and lost in the semifinals of the Western League Championship... An all-city tournament selection in 1999, 2000 and 2001... Helped lead team to CIF San Diego Section Championship as a freshman, sophomore and junior... Ranked No. 3 in San Diego County in 2001... Advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2001 National Clay Courts and Copper Bowl.

The son of William and Theresa Tontz, he has nine brothers and sisters, Billy (30), Katie (29), Chris (28), Mike (26), Jenny (24), Liz (22), Margaret (19), Stephen (15) and Jimmy (13)... His brother, Billy, graduated from the USC School of Medicine... His brothers, Chris (‘95) and Billy (‘92), both played intercollegiate tennis at UC Irvine... His major is undeclared.
