THIS SEASON:
Damien Spizzo enters his second season at USC... Ranked No. 30 (with partner Daniel Langre) in the ITA preseason doubles rankings... Posted a 3-5 recorded in the fall with appearances at the Napa Challenge, ITA Regional Championships (where he advanced to the third round) and the SCTA Championships.

2001:
After joining the team in January, Spizzo competed primarily at No. 3 and posted a 18-9 overall singles record, a team-best 18-6 mark in dual matches and 5-4 in Pac-10 matches... He earned six consecutive match victories from Jan. 30 through March 6, not losing a single match in the month of February... Three of his five regular season losses were to ranked opponents... He dropped his first round singles match of the Pac-10 Tournament... Played two excellent singles matches in the first two rounds of the NCAAs with wins over Virginia’s Tommy Croker to clinch USC’s victory and Mississippi’s Kristofer Stahlberg... In doubles, Spizzo played the majority of the dual matches with partner Andrew Park... The pair compiled an 12-10 overall record primarily at No. 2... He also played doubles matches with Parker Collins (0-1) and Nick Rainey (2-0).

PREP EXPERIENCE:
Spizzo is a 2000 graduate of Frankston Institute in Skye (Victoria), Australia... Played four years of high school tennis at No. 1 and went undefeated... Led team to the Victoria state school championship as a freshman in 1997... Was ranked No. 1 among state schools all four years... Competed at the Australian Nationals in 16, 14 and 12-and-unders, advancing to the semifinals in 16s and 14s and capturing the championship title in 12s... Earned his highest year-end ranking in 18-and-under at No. 3... Reached the Round of 16 in the Australian Junior Open in 2000.

Damien John Spizzo was born on Dec. 16, 1980 in Melbourne, Australia... The son of Ray and Jacquie Spizzo, he has two brothers, Jason (30) and Adrian (32)... His most thrilling moment in sports was defeating Ole Miss, 4-3, in the second round of the 2001 NCAAs... He lists winning the NCAA team championship as one of his top goals... A communications major.
