THIS SEASON:
Johan Berg enters his third season at USC and his fourth season of collegiate tennis after transferring from Pepperdine in 2002... Posted a 3-2 record this fall, competing at the Icy Hot/ITA Championships and advancing to the ITA Regional quarterfinals... Ranked No. 97 in the ITA preseason singles poll.
2004:
Berg's efforts in the postseason led USC to the NCAA Semifinals thanks to his four wins in the first four rounds of competition... Named 2004 All-Pac-10 honorable mention... Completed the season ranked No. 78 in singles and No. 41 in doubles with Adriano Biasella... Compiled a 24-14 overall singles record, an 18-8 mark in dual matches and a 7-5 record against Pac-10 opponents... Played primarily at the No. 1 (4-3), No. 2 (4-5) and No. 3 (10-0) singles positions... Posted key victories over No. 35 Nic Beuque of San Diego on Feb. 13 and No. 43 Alberto Francis of UCLA on March 2... Collected a season-best six consecutive victories in the month of February... Was eliminated in the first round of the Pac-10 Tournament... Played with four different doubles partners throughout the season, including Biasella with whom he compiled a 8-9 overall record and 8-8 mark in dual matches at No. 1... Also played doubles with Parker Collins (5-2), Drew Hoskins (4-3) and Daniel Langre (1-0)... Collected a 6-3 singles record in the fall... Advanced to the Round of 16 at the Icy Hot ITA Indoor Championships and the ITA West Regional... Ranked No. 35 in the ITA preseason singles poll.
2003:
Berg played at the No. 2 singles position and alternated at No. 2 and 3 doubles in 2003... Was ranked among the top 125 singles players for much of the season, but dropped out of the polls on April 27... Compiled a 25-18 overall singles record, an 11-13 mark in dual matches and went 1-6 in the Pac-10... Posted a 21-13 overall doubles record with partners Prakash Amritraj (0-1), Parker Collins (6-6), Jeff Kazarian (1-0), Daniel Langre (7-2), Daniel Tontz (0-1) and Ruben Torres (7-3)... Played most dual matches with Torres and the two went 5-1 at No. 3 and 2-2 at No. 2... Ranked 75th in the ITA preseason rankings ... Posted an 11-3 singles record in fall tournaments ... Won six straight matches in the ITA Championship Pre-Qualifying and Qualifying rounds ... Advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Omni Regional Championships and the finals of the SCTA Championship ... He and Daniel Langre posted a 6-1 doubles record in fall tournaments and advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA Omni Regional Championships.
2002 AT PEPPERDINE:
After joining the team in January, Berg compiled a 20-7 singles dual match record and played primarily at the No. 4 position in Pepperdine's lineup ... Compiled an overall singles mark of 22-8 ... Helped lead the Waves to the NCAA Quarterfinals, a No. 5 final ranking and the West Coast Conference Championship in 2002 ... Partnered with Al Garland, the pair finished the season with a 23-3 overall doubles record and 23-2 record in dual matches ... The duo posted a 17-0 mark at the No. 2 position and went 6-2 at No. 1 ... The two earned a No. 24 final ranking and earned All-WCC first team honors.
PREP EXPERIENCE:
Berg is a 2001 graduate of Tretorn Tennis Academy in Sweden ... Competed with the Swedish National Team for five years (1997-2001) ... Ranked among the ITF top 20 doubles and top 30 singles during that time ... Helped lead Sweden to the 1998 European Team Championship ...
