AUSTIN, Texas – No. 24 Texas (9-8) secured the doubles point and won five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-1 victory over SMU Sunday afternoon at UT’sPenick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas opened the doubles session by winning at the first slot, where the 16th-ranked tandem of Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott won by an 8-1 count over Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Aleksandra Malyarchikova. UT clinched the doubles point at second doubles, as Elizabeth Begley and Aeriel Ellis posted an 8-3 win over Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner. The remaining match at third doubles was suspended.
Begley pushed the Texas lead to 2-0 behind a 6-1, 6-1 win over SMU’s Elena Fayner at fourth singles. The Longhorns assumed a 3-0 lead when their 41st-ranked Ellis toppedSMU’s 119th-ranked Edyta Cieplucha at first singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Texas clinched the match at fifth singles when Lina Padegimaite posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over SMU’s Dishkova. UT took a 5-0 lead as Lana Groenvynck notched a 6-0, 6-4 win over Yana Erkeeva at sixth singles. The Longhorns collected their final point from its 50th-ranked Addison, who was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over SMU’s 77th-ranked Malyarchikova at second singles.
Texas concludes its nine-match home stand next weekend when it hosts Florida International, Texas Tech and Boston University.
