Washington State University tennis facilities have seen a major upswing over the past couple of years with the construction of a new outdoor complex and the renovation of the university’s indoor facility.
Hollingbery Fieldhouse will serve as the indoor home for the 2008-09 Washington State University women’s tennis team. The fieldhouse went through a renovation that included a new playing surface and new lighting.
Over the years the fieldhouse served as the indoor training facility for tennis, track and field, rowing, and at times, baseball. Following last summer’s renovation, tennis became the facility’s primary resident.
Improvements for the facility include a resurfacing of the courts with the PlexiPave Surface system. The system meets NCAA and Pac-10 standards for play. Additionally, the number of courts was decreased from five to four, allowing for maximum area in between courts.
An upgrading lighting system allows for multiple light levels depending upon scheduled events. The system is on a sensor that allows the lights to maximize energy efficiency while maintaining consistent light level throughout the facility.
In the spring of 2007, The WSU Outdoor Tennis Center was completed and now serves as the new outdoor home to Cougar tennis. The state-of-the-art facility features 12 lighted courts, restroom facilities and improved spectator viewing areas.
