 John Simms

After a highly successful career developing junior talent Coach Simms entered his first year of coaching on the college level in 2003.

Simms was a certified USPTA and USPTR instructor for 15 years. During that time he has produced several nationally ranked junior players along with many who have been highly ranked in their section and district.

His players won three West Virginia high school individual state championships in 2003 including the Class AAA (largest division) girls number one singles. Previously Simms had coached one other overall state high school champion.

A pair of his players also led South Charleston High to the school's first ever state tennis title.

He has been selected as a USTA/Midwest Section Zonal Team coach 13 times and was a co-founder of the USTA/West Virginia Area Training Center for advanced juniors.

Since taking over the Yellow Jacket tennis program he has been named conference Coach of the Year in four of his first eight years and led the women's team to a runner-up finish, three conference championships, and three NCAA tournament appearances.

Under his leadership the Yellow Jackets have also had three players named conference Player of the Year.

His 2010 squad finished the fall season ranked #39 in the country, the first national ranking ever for the program.
