WOOSTER, Ohio - The Allegheny women's tennis team opened its North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a 9-0 sweep at the College of Wooster.
Lauren Kristofco and Sara Longo won the first and second singles matches, respectively. Kristofco defeated Elissa Lauber, 6-3, 6-4, while Longo was victorious against Ashley Stockwell, 6-2, 6-2.
Elyse Schmitt, Janna Dickerson, Deborah Landau and Allison Elick also won at singles for Allegheny. Schmitt won in third singles against Brenna Hart, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Dickerson handled Kelsey Jenkins, 6-0, 6-4, at fourth singles; Landau bested Erin Bauer, 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles; and Elick won the sixth singles match over Boo Flynn, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, Kristofco and Longo defeated Lauber and Jenkins on the first tier, 8-2. Schmitt and Dickerson won the second doubles match against Hart and Bauer, 8-6, while the duo of Landau and Margaret Hodgkiss-Lilly claimed a win at No. 3 doubles versus Flynn and Stockwell, 8-6.
The Gators (8-5, 1-0) will be in action next on Saturday when they visit Ohio Wesleyan. Start time is 2 p.m.
